Between 1977 and 2012, at the impulse of Giuseppe Nenci and then of Ugo Fantasia and Carmine Ampolo, and with the contribution of the École Française de Rome and the Centre Jean Bérard of Naples, the Scuola Normale Superiore published an encyclopaedic work in 21 volumes entitled Bibliografia topografica della colonizzazione greca in Italia e nelle isole tirreniche.

The work includes 2856 headwords relating to sites affected by colonial settlement. For each site, the history of archaeological research is reconstructed and a complete historical bibliography on colonisation is offered: a monumental and unique patrimony of information for all those scholars dealing with Greek colonisation and, more in general, for all those interested in the ancient Greek and Roman world.

The entire work, in its original form, will be progressively digitised and included in the Persée portal thanks to an agreement signed in 2022 between the SNS, the École française de Rome, the Centre Jean Bérard and the École Normale Superieure de Lyon.

The aim of the present project is to further enhance this heritage by making it freely available online in an updated version and with search tools to make it more user-friendly.
