The SAET Laboratory is duly equipped for managing every step in the documentation of structures, contexts, and items retrieved during field research.
Among the shooting equipment for aerial photography, besides the usual telescopic poles, a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is often used to take both digital and infra-red images. Aerial stereophotographic pictures are processed to produce the 3D models necessary to create ortophotos for scientific purposes and other materials for scientific dissemination. A digital microscope allows for the documentation of details from inscriptions, coins and sherds.
Traditional drawing equipment includes a total station and wire pantographs.
The SAET is fitted for producing good resin replicas of inscriptions and other items (the replicas of inscriptions from Segesta exhibited in the Palazzo della Carovana at the Scuola Normale Superiore are a good example).
Cooperation with the SMART Laboratory at the SNS, together with the possibility of 3D printing, open wider perspectives for future work.
