The Day of Solidarity – organized by the Nicola Ciardelli Association on the anniversary of the attack in which Major Nicola Ciardelli lost his life in Iraq in 2006 – takes place on April 27th each year and involves all schools in Pisa in initiatives for raising awareness among young students on the issues of Peace and Solidarity.
The SAET Laboratory is participating in the initiatives curated by the Scuola Normale with an educational workshop, aimed at boys and girls in elementary and middle schools, with the supervision of Prof. Adornato together with the students and staff of SNS, and entitled “Pisa-Tuttiomondo. Archaeology and material culture in the Etruscan city.”
The workshop will talk about a Mediterranean sea of exchanges and encounters, of goods and men, and will emphasize Pisa’s openness to the sea and to “other people” since ancient times.
The workshop will be divided into two parts. In the first, the activities normally taking place on an archaeological dig will be shown: a number of installations will be set up where materials will be washed, pieces will be photographed and their significance will be explained. The second part will have a “geographical” approach: ceramic materials will be placed on a map of the Mediterranean, illustrating their place of origin and their place of fruition, which in our case is Pise.
